A chorus

The Department of Music offers a variety of degree and non-degree instruction. Undergraduate students choose between three degrees: Bachelor of Art in Music, Bachelor of Music Education, or the Bachelor of Music (concentrations in Performance, Theory, or Composition). The department also offers an online certificate in music industry studies through the UA Global Campus.

Graduate students pursue a variety of concentrations in the Master of Music degree. The department also offers a post-graduate performer’s certificate and a post-bachelor online certificate in Music Education for Special Needs Students. Starting fall 2024, the university will also offer a Doctoral of Music Arts degree is instrumental or choral conducting. Additionally, the Center for Black Music offers a summers-only master’s degree or certificate in Sacred Black Music.

 

Undergraduate Music Studies

The undergraduate program offers a number of concentrations, depending on the student's career goals. We offer Bachelor of Music (professional) and Bachelor of Arts (liberal arts) degrees and offer one of the most popular minors on campus.

The Department of Music offers both graduate certificates and master's degrees in music. The Master of Music degree offers several concentrations in professional training. Two graduate certificates give students concentrated training in either performance or special education music teaching.

Online Music Studies

Gain research-based knowledge in music education to enrich learning for K-12 students with special needs and those gifted intellectually. This program is the only complete online graduate certificate that features the work and research of world-renowned specialist Dr. Alice Hammel. Hammel is the author of three books, numerous articles, and presentations around the world.
